Is Fulham’s João Palhinha a hot topic again at Bayern Munich?

During the summer, Bayern Munich set their sights on signing Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record fee. However, in the process, they failed to focus on other key targets, leaving their hunt for midfield and defensive reinforcement until the late stages of the transfer window.

With the aim of luring in a number six, Der Rekordmeister attempted to sign Fulham’s João Palhinha. Nevertheless, the deal collapsed in the final hours of deadline day due to the Premier League club’s inability to identify a replacement.

In very un-Bayern Munich fashion, the record champions were unable to land their target—an issue that was not rectified during the winter window. Regardless, as reported by Sky Germany, there is still a possibility that Bayern will turn their attention back to the Portuguese international at the end of the season.

Despite Palhinha signing a new deal until 2028 at the Cottagers, Fulham would be willing to listen to offers, as stated by co-owner Tony Khan: “I want him to stay part of the team for as long as possible, and we were very happy to extend his contract. But if an offer comes along that makes sense for everyone, then you have to weigh it up with each player at the right time.”

It is understood that Fulham would demand around €70 million for Palhinha’s services, and Der Rekordmeister would face competition from others, such as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City. Nonetheless, in light of recent performances, it could be a price worth paying.

Countless times this season, Bayern have appeared vulnerable, and this was highlighted in their defeat to VfL Bochum on Sunday evening. When the ball was lost in the final third, there was little protection offered to Bayern’s back four, and if they are to compete for silverware next year, then personnel changes will need to be made.
