Morgan Rogers (£5.4m) is a gift for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers because he ticks three crucial boxes for managers.
He is budget friendly, regularly named in the starting XI (an ever-present in the top flight so far this term) and delivers attacking returns that go above and beyond his price tag.
Though it took Rogers a while to get off the mark, his four successive blanks from Gameweeks 1-4 betrayed the underlying stats. These underlying stats foreshadowed an inevitable arrival of points, which came from Gameweek 5 and have flowed steadily ever since.
Among his team-mates, only Ollie Watkins (£9.0m), with seven, has produced more than Rogers’ five attacking returns. Only set-piece taker Youri Tielemans (£5.5m) has created more chances than Rogers’ 16. Meanwhile, only Tielemans and Lucas Digne (£4.7m) have mustered more big chances than Rogers’ five.
When you consider that Rogers started the season priced at only £5.0m, it is little wonder he has become such a popular asset. Watkins is the only Villa player to be found in more FPL teams (22.9%) than Rogers (21.8%).
And with so many managers looking to sell Erling Haaland (£15.2m) to afford for premium players such as Mohamed Salah (£12.9m), Cole Palmer (£10.9m) and Bukayo Saka (£10.1m), Rogers represents a superb budget enabler who delivers points in his own right.
For context, he is Villa’s second-highest scoring player with 45 points. The highest, Watkins, has 10 points more but is £3.6m pricier.
In pure value-for-money terms, Rogers is the fifth-best midfielder in FPL and is currently returning 8.3 FPL points per £1m spent.
