Manchester United's potential move as manager to Gary O'Neil has been branded “insulting” to the Wolves boss.
That's according to Gabby Agbonlahor, who also echoed talkSPORT's Alex Crook in stating how unlikely it would be that O'Neil would accept.
talkSPORT has revealed that Wolves will look to tie their head coach to a new contract to fend off interest from rival clubs..
O'Neil took charge of Molineux days before the season began and has guided them to ninth place, just six points behind the Red Devils.
His impressive tenure has sparked reports that senior figures at Man United view the 40-year-old as a strong candidate to join the club's coaching staff.
While talkSPORT understands that O'Neil is highly unlikely to sacrifice his current position even to move to Old Trafford, Agbonlahor claimed the former Bournemouth The boss would be offended if they even tried.
He told the talkSPORT breakfast: “I think he would feel insulted, you know? I think he would feel insulted.
“If you go to practice today and see this story, you'll say, 'So I'm leaving a job that I've been outstanding at this season.' Wolverhampton Wanderers And go be a coach?
“Coaches want to be coaches, they don't want to be coaches.
“They go and become coaches if they have difficulties and lose their job and say, 'I have to be a coach to go get a job.'
“Some of these stories that are coming out now are a little ridiculous.”
Agbonlahor's Breakfast co-host Natalie Sawyer agreed with the former Aston Villa captain's assessment but raised a potential route United could take.
Erik ten Hag's future is reportedly unclear ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with a potential coaching role in waiting for O'Neil the only thing that may convince him.
Sawyer added: “I guess the only way it would work is if you are given some assurance of that, and I know it's very difficult to give that in football, but also some assurance that you will be next in line.
“But yeah, I agree with you, I just think that's crazy.
“Why would you leave the coaching job to be a coach?”
