“It's not a good thing”: the singing of Manchester United fans makes Rubén Amorim uncomfortable

Rubén Amorim has admitted that he does not like the chant that Manchester United fans sing to him.

The Portuguese manager has already proven to be a popular figure at Old Trafford, having led the club to two wins and one draw in his first three games in charge.

What's even better for fans is that the previously failing team has now scored eight goals in those three games.

As a result, fans have created a chant for Amorim to show their pride in the former Sporting manager, shouting 'Ruben Amorim' to the tune of 'Give it Up' by KC and the Sunshine Band.

But despite saying it's an honor to be serenaded every week, the 39-year-old has made his feelings very clear.

“I don't like my singing, I don't like it,” Amorim said.

“I feel a little embarrassed, but since I'm the coach, they have to sing for the players and for the club. So it's not a good thing for me.

“I really understand and appreciate the connection with the fans, but I want them to support the team and the players because they are on the field and I am off the field.

“But I feel really honored by that, I feel a connection with the fans, but we know we need results to maintain it.”

After such a promising start in Manchester, Amorim faces his biggest challenge yet when his team takes on Arsenal on Wednesday night.

With the Gunners second in the standings, the Portuguese coach had a clear message for his players: “It is important to be brave.

“When I say brave it means not pressing up all the time, it is not the same. We have to understand the game, the moments of the game and we need to have the ball. That is a key point.

“We want to have the ball and we also want to dominate some moments of the game because we know that in this match it is difficult to control the entire game and if I have to say something (to the players) we have to be brave and play the game.”

Amorim added: “They are the best team we have faced by far, but the test is every game.

“The last game yesterday (against Everton) was really tough. It was 4-0, but you saw the game like I saw it.

“Each team is now a test, without so many minutes to train, trying to manage the number of minutes for many players who cannot imagine a match.

“You have to know that some players have to be off the field in 60 minutes… 70 minutes, so it's really difficult. Right now everything is a test.

“Arsenal, for me, I know it's difficult manchester united say but they are at a different point in their team. “They are in a different moment.”
