Wrexham star James McClean appeared to take a subtle dig at Chelsea's Levi Colwill following their on-field brawl during a pre-season friendly.

The match was friendly in name only, as the The Irish veteran and the young Blues defender faced off just minutes before the start of the match at Levi's Stadium, home of the NFL team, the San Francisco 49ers.

England international Colwill responded to an early challenge from McClean, with the pair left shoulder to shoulder without the ball.

This led to a minor altercation, with Colwill grabbing McClean by the shirt and the two grappling in the middle of the field with just 122 seconds on the clock.

The scenes then escalated as players from both teams and even Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson He got involved after running out of the technical area.

After the scenes ended, both players avoided bookings and the two British clubs shared the spoils, with League One side Wrexham drawing 2-2 with the Premier League giants across the pond.

Christopher Nkunku opened the scoring for Chelsea In the first half, before goals from Luke Bolton and Jack Marriott put the north Wales club ahead, the Blues needed a late equaliser from Lesley Ugochukwu to salvage the tie.

But McClean couldn't resist taking a cheeky dig at his Chelsea rival in a social media post the day after the game.

Posting a selfie from Sugarrays boxing gym in Vancouver, the former Wigan and Stoke star wrote: “No pushing or elbowing here, proper fighting.”

Wrexham are currently enjoying their second pre-season tour of the United States since acquiring the club from the Hollywood actor. Ryan Reynolds and the creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Rob McElhenney.

Known as the 'Wrex Coast Tour', the Welsh side are celebrating their back-to-back promotion success with friendly matches in Santa Barbara, San Francisco and Los Angeles in the USA.

They will also take a trip north of the border to Reynolds' hometown of Vancouver, Canada.

McClean is a big fan of boxing and has been no stranger to fights on the football field throughout his career.

The club's women's team will also play a series of matches in Los Angeles and Portland.

Wrexham have enjoyed a decent pre-season so far, beating non-league side Hanley Town 5-1 before a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in California.

They will play Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada on Sunday before returning home to host Fleetwood Town at the Racecourse Ground on August 3.

Parkinson's men begin their League One campaign against Wycombe on August 10 as Wrexham look to consolidate their position in the third tier of English football.

Or, who knows, maybe even get three consecutive promotions to reach the Championship.
