Jamie Carragher has made a startling prediction about Cole Palmer's transfer if Chelsea's struggles continue this season.
Palmer enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for the Blues after joining from Manchester City in a £42.5million deal.
The 22-year-old was named PFA Young Player of the Year after scoring 25 goals in all competitions.
He was Chelsea's only bright spark last season in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
City's move to Stamford Bridge has been positive for Palmer.
He was included in England's squad for Euro 2024 and played a key role in Gareth Southgate's side reaching the final, before losing to Spain.
Palmer was rewarded for his brilliant season and signed a two-year contract extension, giving him a pay rise that will take him to the club until 2033.
However, Carragher suggested that if Chelsea have another dismal season then they could look elsewhere.
Palmer has been a Manchester United fan since childhood, despite having come through City's academy.
And Liverpool legend Carragher advised them to look at the situation in 12 months' time.
Speaking to The Overlap, Carragher said: “I've just had a thought. If Chelsea have another bad season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right flank.
“He's a big Manchester United fan, isn't he? Wouldn't it be something that United should visit in maybe 12 months if it doesn't work out?
“You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Manchester United.”
Big things are expected of Palmer this season, but talkSPORT presenter Simon Jordan believes there may be too much hype surrounding him.
He told talkSPORT: “Every time Cole Palmer came on the pitch[at Euro 2024]the level of expectation was that he would do something spectacular and change the course of the game.
“I think he's a good player, I think he's going to be a very good player.
“But when you see someone like Mbappe come on the pitch or you see the superstars before, I don't think he's anywhere near that. I think he's a very good player.
“I think he has the ability to be a very, very good player. But we have that tendency to be able to turn a litre into a pint just because we want to.”
