Jamie Carragher believes it is time for Liverpool to move on from “absolute legend” Andy Robertson.
The red oneswho has been the star of the Premier League when it comes to defense this season, looked surprisingly porous in defense during the 2-2 draw against manchester united.
Lisandro Martínez's goal for the Red Devils meant United scored their first goal at Anfield since Wayne Rooney beat Simon Mignolet in January 2016.
What could have been more worrying for the Liverpool coach? Arne Slot was the fact that both of United's goals came from their right flank.
Starting right back Trent Alexander-Arnold He had a game to forget against Liverpool's historic rivals, as his misplaced pass led to Martínez's first goal.
Alexander-Arnold, who has been the subject of intense speculation regarding a transfer to real MadridHe was then caught out of position for United's second.
Ibrahima Konate, center back, had gone out to close down Alejandro Garnacho but failed, as the Argentine played a cross that was finished off by Amad Diallo.
Andy RobertsonLiverpool left-back, was not innocent of Diallo's goal when the United winger's shot slipped between his legs and beat Alisson.
Robertson was also caught dead by losing track of Joshua Zirkzee, with the United star providing what could and perhaps should have been the assistance for the winneronly for Harry Maguire to spill the beans.
With both Liverpool full-backs having games to forget, Carragher believed the Reds boss Arne Slot We should consider strengthening that area of the field in January.
That could spell the end for Robertson who, according to Carragher, “is holding his own in every game.”
But it would be a small price to pay given Carragher believes a move could help Liverpool get over the line in the title race.
“Liverpool need to sign a full-back,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.
“I think they need a left-back. Trent Alexander-Arnold was really poor. He will be much better than that and Conor Bradley is fantastic.
“I think Andy Robertson, who is an absolute legend, endures in every game.
“I don't think Kostas Tsimikas has enough level to come in and replace him.
“I think if Liverpool could get a left-back in January, that would put Liverpool in a really strong position to win the league.”
Carragher's brutal analysis of Robertson echoed what Red Devils great Roy Keane said before the game.
“The only player I would look at at Liverpool that I have doubts about in the last two years is Robertson,” Keane said.
“I think if you have the opportunity to run at him, you make the most of it.”
Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City in the summer of 2017 for around £8 million and has proven to be one of the Reds' shrewdest acquisitions in modern history.
The Scot has been a reliable member of Liverpool during his eight seasons at the club to date, making over 320 appearances in all competitions.
However, Robertson's form this season has dipped compared to his usual high standards and Slot even benched him for some matches.
In November, Robertson confirmed that he had held talks with Slot about his performances this season and that he would remain a consummate professional no matter what the Dutchman decided.
“The manager is very open and honest,” Robertson said.
“We have spoken quite a few times and they have always been good conversations. There is mutual respect between us even if we do not agree with the team's alignments.
“It happened with Jurgen (Klopp), it happened with Scotland, and I always have respect for the manager. He knows my experience in the dressing room and how I try to help everyone else. And that won't stop.
“But I like playing. I like being a starter and being on the field, but when I'm not, I try to be as professional as possible and just try to talk on the training ground and wait for my opportunity.
“I knew the next time I got the opportunity I would take advantage of it and that's what I tried to do.”
Robertson will hope to reprise his starting role when Liverpool travel to Tottenham on Wednesday for the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.
