John Terry may have been a notoriously tough player, but he couldn't help crying after watching a video of his former Chelsea boss.
The Chelsea legend and formerAston Villa The England defender and captain was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame on Monday, celebrating his brilliant career that saw him win five Premier League titles and make 492 league appearances.
Of the five, three of those Premier League trophies came under Jose Mourinho in Chelseawith the Portuguese coach leading them to the title in 2005, 2006 and in his second spell at Stamford Bridge in 2015.
The pair also won the FA Cup in 2007, as well as the League Cup in 2005, 2007 and then again in 2015.
Who else would be better suited to wish Terry a huge congratulations on entering the history books than the man who gave him the armband to become the club's most successful captain?
In a video posted on the Premier League's official X page, Terry, now 43, is seen opening a black box and removing a phone from it.
After pressing play, a clip of Mourinho appears on the screen.
“Premier League Hall of Fame, John Terry?” says the former Tottenham manager before shrugging his shoulders a little. “It has to be that way.
“And now it is. I think for their kids it's a really great thing.”
“I think for me, as one of the guys who had the privilege of working with you for about six seasons, I'm very happy, very proud.
“You deserve it, your career was incredible. I am very, very happy for you and very proud of this achievement.”
Kissing his hand, he finishes by saying: “Kisses, mate.”
After a brief pause, Terry looks up and smiles.
“Wow,” she says, tears filling her eyes. “That's pretty emotional.”
Clearly choked, Terry takes a moment to compose himself.
“I'm sorry…” he says, “I think… I think I owe him, you know, a huge amount for my career and the kind of direction it took.”
Terry made a little joke at the end to lighten the mood.
“It still scares me to death!” The river. “When I see a video of him or he calls me on FaceTime out of the blue or something like that.”
With a smile, he added: “But I have a lot of respect for him for what he did for me and for Chelsea.
“Chelsea means everything to me, so yeah, very emotional.”
