Julian Nagelsmann could extend his contract as Germany’s head coach prior to Euro 2024. Talks between the former Bayern Munich coach and the DFB have already taken place and an extension is certainly possible.
Speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah spoke positively of Nagelsmann, who is slowly rebuilding an identity within the national team again.
“You need setbacks in order to come back even stronger afterwards,” said Tah. “The constellation with the team and the coach fits so well now. I’m confident that we can get out of this little slump that we had in the past and with the way we do and in a way that can inspire people again and rebuild the atmosphere.
“I can only say that the collaboration is working well right now. He [Julian Nagelsmann] is a top trainer at a very high level. But what comes from him or what the DFB decide in the end, I as a player cannot influence it at all.”
With a contract until after the Euros, Nagelsmann could yet make a shock return to Bayern Munich as the Rekordmeister searching for their successor to Julian Nagelsmann. Speaking to Abendzeitung München, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen explained whether Nagelsmann could return to the club: “I think others have already said that you should never rule out anything in football. But that is a thing of the future and not an issue today.”
Nagelsmann succeeded Hansi Flick as Germany’s head coach. In the four games that the 36-year-old has been in charge, Germany have won one, drawn one and lost two, the defeats coming against Turkey and Austria during the last international break.
Ahead of the upcoming friendlies against France and the Netherlands, there’s plenty of new faces around the Germany camp. Aleksandar Pavlovic was called-up but had to withdraw after contacting tonsillitis, while Jan-Niklas Beste also received a maiden call-up but withdrew due to injury.
With 14 goals and seven assists in 21 Bundesliga games this season, Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav also received a first nomination, as did Maximilian Beier, Waldemar Anton and Maximilian Mittelstädt.
