Speaking to TNT Sports (via kicker), who he had been a pundit for during the final, José Mourinho revealed what he had said to Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic after the final whistle on the Wembley pitch.

On what the two times Champions League winner said to Terzic, Mourinho said: “Time is not going to help you. It’s going to be very hard for the rest of your career, for the rest of your life, but you have to be very proud of the work you did because it was amazing. As a coach you couldn’t do more, you can’t put the ball in the back of the net. The coach can organise, can give mentality, can give confidence, and he did all that.”

However, Mourinho had nothing but praise for Terzic and Dortmund after their 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in the final: “They were brave, made a good distinction between when to press up and when to lower the block. They have covered them (Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo) well, never in one-on-one, always with good protection. They did everything well, just didn’t score.”

Mourinho also gave more individual praise for Terzic: “The coach can’t score, don’t bring the ball into the net. The trainer can organize, can give mentality, can give conviction, and he has done all that. As a coach, he has to be proud, but he won’t forget it.”

Dortmund were the better team for the majority of the game against Real Madrid. However, despite their momentum, they were never able to take advantage of their dominance and that ultimately proved costly when they conceded in the 74th minute from a corner. A couple of minutes later, Vinicius Junior would provide the dagger which ended Dortmund’s hopes of a second Champions League title.
