Reds striker Salah was ruled out of the match and introduced as a substitute after a Hammer Equalizer to make it 2-2 in the 77th minute.

Manager Klopp was seen giving instructions to the Egyptian, leading to a heated exchange.

Salah gestured furiously towards the German, who seemed to retreat to calm the situation.

Striker Darwin Núñez, who had also been left out of the starting eleven, finally intervened to stop his teammate.

Klopp was asked about the incident after the match and refused to give any further details.

He said: “No (I can't say what was said), but we already talked about it in the locker room. For me, it's done.”

However, when walking through the mixed zone, Salah told reporters: “If I speak, there will be fire.”

Klopp announced the changes after a 2-0 defeat against Everton on Wednesday night, all but ending Liverpool's hopes of winning the Premier League title.

There followed a recent 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace and elimination from the Europa League at the hands of Atalanta.

Klopp has announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season after a brilliant nine-year spell under the Feyenoord manager. Arne Slot lined up to replace him.

However, the Salah incident is the latest stain on a disappointing end to Klopp's swan song season.

Salah is Liverpool's top scorer this season with 24 in all competitions, but the 31-year-old has been among those criticized for his performances in recent weeks.

talkSPORT understands this could also be Salah's last season at Anfield due to great interest from Saudi Arabia.

The striker was subject to a £150m bid from Al Ittihad last summer and Liverpool are preparing for another bid in the coming months.

Salah, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract, could become one of the Saudi Pro League's highest-earning players with a three-year deal already on the table.

Reacting to the touchline brawl, England legend Stuart Pearce said in a comment to talkSPORT: “Whether Salah is thinking about the summer (and a possible Liverpool exit) or not, I don't know, but when You set your standards as ridiculously high as Salah has, there's no doubt you get frustrated with your own form.

“I'm watching a replay of the interaction now, Jurgen has said something to Salah and he's reacting, and the more he reacts, the more and more physical it gets.

“Núñez and Gómez had to be really peacemakers and stop it.

“This sort of thing happens because of the frustration Salah will feel with his own form and knowing the manager won't be here for a couple of weeks.”
