Jurgen Klopp explains how Manchester United indirectly caused Liverpool's title fight
Jurgen Klopp might have Manchester United to thank if Liverpool go ahead and win the Premier League this season.
With Liverpool Chasing his 20th league title, Klopp has admitted that a goalless draw against United in December was the moment his season came to life.
“I loved the manchester united match,” Klopp said. “We didn't win: it was 0-0, but that was the day when our counter-pressing mentality came into action again.
“It was something I asked for before that game. I said everything is fine so far, we are new together, we have to find a way, you can't ask for counterpressure when you play with ten or nine men.
“You have to overcome games in different ways, but before United we talked specifically about that.
“You can't just take the ball and shoot straight at the goal. But if you get it high up the pitch, then you're very likely to find the shot.”
“That's definitely the explanation and from then on, for me, the season changed towards the way we wanted to play.
“It was a really strange part of the season. We got results, but I heard once or twice that 'Liverpool get results but aren't completely convincing', but I remember United like it was yesterday.
“That was the pre-game meeting and the guys complied. Since then we've done it again.”
Liverpool then ran into United, who were hurt after being eliminated from the Champions League days earlier.

The Reds were big favourites, but missed the chance to go top of the league with a point in a lackluster performance from both teams.
