Jurgen Klopp gave props to Alexis Mac Allister for the amazing goal that helped Liverpool beat Sheffield United and stay ahead in the Premier League title race.
It was a big event for overachieving Blades when they surprisingly drew Anfield, although the last place Blades seemed to be hit by a strike from 20 yards out by Mac Allister (a World Cup champion with Argentina), who gave the Red an amazing lead of 2-1. The goal came in the 90th to Cody Gakpo, as Liverpool took the first position since the end of this match.
Boss Klopp mentioned: “Our desperate storming of the goal needed boy Macca’s wizardry to inspire an unlikely reversal.” He’s the most important player for us, a great player and a very nice person. I’m glad that we have him; as a club, it makes us happy.
For those who doubted his defensive competencies, he has strengthened in more than finding the back of the net, I admire him more as a creative midfielder.
He’s undeniably good and I am impressed by his skills. At the very start, he used to play the defensive midfield role, but this did not mean that we were not able to push him forward. He follows that up with unbelievable goals, highlight goals are goals from him. And then came the free-kick that was so outrageous, sublime, how good a player indeed!
Mac Allister, who came from Brighton for £35 million during the summer, nearly went on to strike the bar with a fierce curling free-kick.
It was about the 17th minute that Liverpool got a lucky chance to strike with Darwin Nunez blocking the clearing line of the goalkeeper and the ball bounced into the goal.
The home side dominated possession in the first half and yet they failed to score using several chances. Their lead got broken by the opponents in the 58th minute, and Mac Allister being nominated for this Month’s Player of the Month again scored with 14 minutes to go. “Gakpo, a substitute, was the hero with a header sending Green and White home happy with three points”
This result provided the Reds with two points over their rivals Arsenal while also elevating them to three points above last year’s champions Manchester City, who now have eight games to go in the league.
More than anything else, this means that Liverpool can be the ones (reins in hand) to decide what is necessary to win the league. They simply need to secure wins against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton, West Ham, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Wolverhampton to garner their second Premier League title and as a result top-flight English champions for a whooping 20th time.
The Reds came back to win, but late goals were frustrating for Wilder.
On the other hand, the visitors were trying to break their Anfield jinx which stretched back to 2 April 1994, when Jostein Flo scored twice in a 2-1 victory line, while Liverpool was on an invincible run, and they had only dropped points at Anfield last October when Leeds inflicted a 2-1 defeat on them.
Strange enough, Sheffield United were close to a perfect start when the home keeper Caoimhin Kelleher got well in to make a superb save to keep James McAtee in the 90th second. The Chihuahuan’s striker Ben Brereton Diaz then missed the most of a chance to tap in Auston’s Trusty’head from the following corner.
The bluff caused the Reds to lose points as the visitors’ clearance was blocked by Grbic’s leg, who then scored his 18th goal of the season. We wonder, how does it emerge this match the score was only 1-0 by the 1st half. All of them (Salah, Nunez, and Gomez) missed the first and the header shot, and even the outside left shot that had not been scored by Joe Gomez, failed.
After the great dribbling moves of Luis Diaz, Ryan Gravenberch lost his footing and missed the target as well while taking a shot. The ball was surprisingly close to Dominik Szoboszlai and thanks to Mirko Grbic, he could save the goal very well.
Diaz also had a shot from 25 yards off that was slightly off the bar, Liverpool players also had a shot from 25 yards that just went past the margin.
Following the first half, Klopp’s men would get another reminder that it was not over yet when Bogle had to make a good save to save Kelleher from making it 3-1 to the opponent.
The Blades were in for a surprise as they scored, making those on Anfield field ground to be worried about the whole thing of the field having two points. After that, Mac Allister stunned the crowd with a magnificent goal, causing some relief in the home stands, and Lukaku assured us that only the last straight lines remained.
In comparison, the Blades, who had been struggling, couldn’t have imagined they’d walk out of Anfield with anything more than a defeat or a draw. Their boss was quoted as saying they needed a massive level of success if they were to beat the big boys, the favorites.
Wilder spoke later on that the dressing room was a silent place since people had come to the understanding that they were only playing to fill the blanks and that Liverpool was a team that would have an easy win.
Such feelings weren’t the thing giving us motivation or the thing with which we felt ourselves to be, since we were a part of the club for a hazier reason. When we had the ball, they were in control, they wore the pants inside the room, but I was the only exception, I could still hold in. Nothing went wrong. We had a few chances too.
They made it Awesome with a goal so extraordinary. In the last 15 minutes, you’ve witnessed the power of The Premier League in the champions. And we have a flaw that is letting goals in close to the last minutes of the match
Sheffield United is not willing to de down the ranks to the Championship. In the next four matches, they will face opponents from the bottom part of the table that are fighting relegation – Brentford, Burnley, Nottingham Forest, and Everton. This will include Leicester only a point clear of safety above the relegation zone, while other clubs are a lot further behind.
Tottenham is standing in front of Liverpool (the winners of the League last season but under the management of Klopp), and the biggest match to come for them is against Manchester United which is scheduled for Sunday.
The Red Devils beat them 4-3 in an amazing FA Cup quarterfinal fixture at Manchester United’s Old Trafford recently.
