Jurgen Klopp believes chasing Arsenal's superior goal difference is unwise in the title race.
Liverpool lost the chance to return to the top of the Premier League by falling to a 2-2 draw with Manchester United, meaning they are currently tied with Arsenal on 71 points, but have scored fewer goals.
However, reducing this deficit is not something the Reds boss can do. klopp He will urge his team to do so in the final weeks of the season.
Speaking after the draw at Old Trafford, he said: “(The media) will do it, and other people will tell us: 'They have a better goal difference, we have to try.'
“That will be the dumbest thing we can do. It doesn't happen on purpose, you don't win a game and you want to score eight goals and it happens.”
“We are who we are, we are what we are, and that's why we're in the race and I absolutely agree with that. Until yesterday, we were at the top of the table and now it's Arsenal.”
Klopp also added: “We want to be there after 38 (matches), after the last matchday.
“It's always better to be there all the time and put some distance between yourself (and the other teams). We are fine with our situation.
“I wish we had more points but I'm absolutely fine and I'm actually delighted that these guys got us to that situation.
“The same guys who missed some opportunities are the ones who gave us 71 points.”
With the Premier League title now out of their hands, Liverpool will be hoping Arsenal and Manchester City drop more points.
Tottenham and Aston Villa pose two tough tests in the run inwith Europa League glory also in mind in the coming weeks.
There is a chance Liverpool will win the league on the final day against Wolves in what will be Klopp's last game at Anfield as manager.
Such a result would mean a fairytale ending to the German's tenure and there will surely be more twists and turns to come.
