Earlier this week, Santi Denia has announced his Spain team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which begin later this summer. On paper, it is an incredibly strong team listed by La Rojita, although there was one notable name missing from the list of defenders.

Dean Huijsen is coming off a promising loan spell at Roma, where he featured 14 times in all competitions last season. The 19-year-old is incredibly highly rated in Italy, as well as in the Spanish Football Federation, which pushed to have him in the Denia squad for the Olympics.

However, Relief they reported that Juventus, Huijsen's parent club, rejected the RFEF's advances. Spanish clubs are unable to prevent their players from being called up, but this rule does not apply to overseas sides, meaning Juventus are well within their rights to prevent Huijsen from going.

One shot for SpainAlthough they already have Pau Cubarsi, Cristhian Mosquera, Eric Garcia and Jon Pacheco as center back options for the Olympics – an embarrassment of riches, to say the least.
