Phillips joined West Ham in the final days of the January transfer window from Manchester City, but there has been a manager's signing under pressure. David Moyes I would have expected.

Three minutes into his first game in a Hammers shirt, Phillips gave Bournemouth a goal in the 1-1 draw against the Cherries, and it only took four games for him to earn his first red card for the club.

He earned his first yellow card against Forest for an unnecessary push on Nicolas Dominguez, but failed to heed the referee's warning and was soon sent off down the tunnel after a rash challenge on Morgan Gibbs-White.

Former Hammers striker Dean Ashton was watching the game on talkSPORT and was unhappy with the January signing.

He said: “The first booking is stupid because he just pushes Diminges to the ground when he doesn't need to, and then goes in at knee level to try and get the ball, but doesn't get much.” and gets Gibbs-White instead.

“It has been, let's be honest, an absolutely shocking start to his West Ham career for kalvin phillips. It's clear he's been sitting on the bench for too long and is nowhere near up to speed!

It looks like Phillips is really testing Gareth Southgate and the England manager's track record by selecting him ahead of this summer's European Championship.

This was only Phillips' eighth Premier League appearance of the season and yet it was his second sending off of the campaign.

Phillips is enduring a disastrous loan spell in London and surely has a lot of work to do to earn a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

This reduced West Ham to ten men with just 30 minutes remaining, and Moyes' men eventually succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the City Ground.

Forest won the game with two goals at the end of each half: Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time and Callum Hudson-Odoi added a second in the fourth minute of added time.

Footage resurfaces of Kalvin Phillips' touching moment with a West Ham fan and the midfielder set to arrive at the London Stadium on loan.

Jamie O'Hara also expressed his opinion on Phillips' sending off and insisted that there is no way he could be selected for the England squad in his current state.

“Kalvin Phillips can't go to the Euros, he doesn't seem to be fit, he seems very off the pace,” said the talkSPORT pundit and former Tottenham player.

“They sent him off for two stupid yellow cards, he's making a mistake in the timing of his tackles because he hasn't been playing, he's rusty.

“He's miles away, he can't go to the Euros right now. He's gone there to play again, but he's actually making West Ham worse!”

Ashton agreed, adding, “I just don't see how you can beat him.”
