Kalvin Phillips makes a nightmare start to his West Ham career by gifting a goal to Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke
West Ham midfielder Kalvin Phillips got off to the worst possible start to his career at the London Stadium as he gifted an early goal to Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke.
The 28-year-old, who makes his debut for the Hammers since arriving on loan from city of manchester – came under pressure from the start after a weak pass from Kurt Zouma.
He tried to return the ball to his goalkeeper, but Cherries striker Solanke was ready to pounce and stole the ball to score after three minutes.
The referees initially flagged Solanke as offside, but VAR intervened to allow the goal.
Phillips started for the Hammers for the first time since joining the club from Man City for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.
He played just 89 minutes in the Premier League for City, in four substitute appearances, before heading to the London Stadium.
He joined David Moyes' team in search of more playing minutes in an attempt to improve their Euro 2024 odds.
It was the midfielder's first start in the Premier League this season and he got off to the worst possible start.
Solanke now has 13 Premier League goals this season as he continues his brilliant campaign.
Only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah (14) has more than the Cherries forward.

However, fans on social media gave the midfielder a break and blamed Zouma.
One said in X: “That's in Zouma, atrocious step.”
Another added: “It's Zouma's fault.”
A third wrote: “A hospital ball from Zouma.”
West Ham managed to get back into the game, with James Ward-Prowse securing them a point after scoring from the penalty spot.
