Kylian Mbappe will not travel with the Real Madrid squad for their pre-season training camp in the United States.

The Spanish and European champions are due to travel to the U.S. on July 28 and will play three friendly matches against Milan (Chicago), Barcelona (New Jersey) and Chelsea (Charlotte).

The 25-year-old striker joined Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer and was introduced to the club’s fans on Tuesday.

At his presentation press conference, Mbappe was asked about his presence on the pre-season tour and he replied: “If the club wants me to go, I will go.”

The club have taken the decision that he will not go, and he will instead begin his pre-season training with his new club team-mates at their Valdebebas facilities from August 7.

The club’s plan, taken in conjunction with Mbappe, is for the France international to play in the European Super Cup against Atalanta on August 14 in Warsaw, Poland.

Madrid also plan for Mbappe’s international team-mates Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga to return to training at the same time as Mbappe, although this is subject to change depending on the wishes of the players.

After being knocked out of Euro 2024 by Spain at the semi-final stage on July 9 and being presented at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 16, the club, Carlo Ancelotti and Mbappe himself have found it advisable for him to rest physically and mentally ahead of beginning life at his new club.
