After four years of injury-hit at LiverpoolThiago's contract will not be renewed, and Relief say that Girona has been in contact with his agent to find out if he would be open to the move. The 33-year-old man is open to the idea, after 11 years away from Catalonia where he grew up. His partner Julia Vigas would like to return, and the couple tend to vacation on the coast near Girona.
El Blanc-i-Vermells have not made any decisions yet, but if he can stay fit, he will provide experience, quality and ability that could replace Aleix Garcia, who could leave this summer. The main obstacle would be his annual salary of 10 million euros, which Thiago would have to reduce to make a deal.
Stylistically, he seems like a perfect fit, and Michel Sanchez has shown his ability to get the best out of technically gifted midfielders. However, his salary means that he will probably have to be a central part of their team next season, and combined with his fitness problems, he could be something of a risk for Girona. Champions League experience will also be valuable for Girona next season, and Thiago has plenty of it.
