One of the most interesting cases in La Liga to follow this summer is that of Alvaro Valles. The 26-year-old was one of the best goalkeepers in the league last season, but despite that, he is set to be ostracized from the Las Palmas side for the 2024-25 campaign.
Valles' contract expires next summer, and he has no plans to renew it. Therefore, he will not be an option for new manager Luis Carrion, with Jasper Cillessen and Dinko Horkas to be Las Palmas' keeper options for next season.
Speaking to Ser Deportivo Las Palmas (via Relief), the president of Las Palmas, Miguel Angel Ramirez, confirmed the recent information that an offer was accepted by Marseille for Valles, but the player rejected the move as he is only interested in a return to Real Betis.
“We had an agreement with Marseille, important for Las Palmas and we also thought about him, but he has an agreement with Betis. This is what the boy recognized me, and for this agreement to be given the green light, the Betis needs an agreement with Las Palmas.
Ramirez confirmed that Valles will not be available for selection until he signs a new contract. He also admitted that The Palms they are ready to lose him for free next summer if his assessment is not met Betis.
“(Valles) knows that there are two goalkeepers that we have already signed and that our intention is that they are the goalkeepers that the coach will be able to count on. We will not make the formations for the coach, but we will say which team has at his disposal.
“We are not going to take something that we do not understand that we should take. We prefer to lose money, we have a position, a player evaluation in the market, and if a team wants him, they will pay for it. And if he is not, we take a risk, we lose money and next year he will go free. We have a philosophy of work and we cannot change it.”
