The expectation is that Alvaro Valles, one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga last season, will leave Las Palmas this summer, with his agent having already notified the club of his intention not to sign a new contract – the his current deal ends in 2025. Fortunately, the Gran Canaria side have moved quickly to secure a likely replacement.
Ace for The province, an agreement has been agreed for Las Palmas to sign Jasper Cillessen. The 35-year-old will arrive from Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, with whom he has been since 2022.
Cillessen will return to La Liga with a third different club. The 65-time Dutch goalkeeper joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2016, before moving to Valencia three years later. He is in line to be the starter under the next manager of Las Palmas, who is not yet known after the departure of Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta, who moves to Seville was confirmed on Sunday.
Cillessen is a very good pickup for The Palms, and will provide a burst of experience. It is also a boost for Real Betis, who aim to secure an agreement for Valles during the transfer window.
