Latest news on Mbappe: Future not dependent on Champions League and if he renews it would be long-term
This Wednesday, PSG could be relegated to the Europa League. They are playing for qualification to the Champions League knockout stage against Borussia Dortmund. It won’t be easy for the French side as their opponents need at least a draw to finish top of the group.
It sounds harsh, but the almighty PSG could miss out on the Champions League in December. It would be a tremendous shock for the team coached by Luis Enrique. And here, as almost always, comes the name of Mbappe and his medium-term future.
According to information published by ‘L’Equipe’, the future in Paris of the France captain, who has a contract until June 30, is not dependent on whether PSG continue in the Champions League. If the Parisians drop to the Europa League on Wednesday, it would not mean Mbappe will leave the Parc des Princes club in the summer.
It is a stance Mbappe already held last season, when PSG were knocked out by Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League. “If I linked my future to the Champions League and didn’t disrespect the club, I would have gone a long time ago! I’m here, I’m very happy and, for the moment, I’m not thinking about anything other than making PSG happy,” said the French superstar.
Mbappe’s toughest summer
This summer, a tough one for Mbappe after several weeks away from training with the team, is still on the young star’s mind. However, the option of renewal is also on the table. In this information, ‘L’Equipe’ stresses that if he agrees to extend his contract it would be for a long period, not for two years like last time.
Mbappe has never hidden the fact that his main objective is to win the Champions League with PSG. His attachment to the Parisian club has to do with the existence of a good project and not so much with short-term results.
