Leeds have now rejected a club-record bid from Brentford for Archie Gray, allowing Tottenham to pounce, talkSPORT understands.

The star is believed to have a release clause in his Leeds contract which expires today, with Brentford offering more than that to close a deal quickly.

But now it has been brought down due to issues with the payment structure.

Gray, a product of the Leeds academy, had been offered a contract worth £75,000-a-week – an attractive package for the 18-year-old.

The deal was set to break Brentford's current transfer record, which stands at £30m when they agreed a deal with the Belgian side. Club Bruges for Brazilian striker Igor Thiago in February.

The Bees will now be forced to go back to the drawing board to close the deal.
