According to the Daily Mail, Leeds United have opened talks with Fortuna Düsseldorf for midfielder Ao Tanaka.
Over the past twelve months, it has been well documented that a number of Bundesliga sides have shown interest in luring Tanaka away from the Merkur Spiel-Arena.
However, as of yet, Düsseldorf have failed to receive any approaches from Germany’s top flight for the Japanese international.
Nevertheless, Tanaka could still be on his way out of Düsseldorf with Leeds looking to secure his signature.
It is understood that the Championship outfit have started negotiations with Fortuna, with the understanding that the 25-year-old has a £2.65 million release clause in his contract.
Should Leeds look to activate the clause embedded in Tanaka’s deal, then the midfielder could fly to England later today in order to quickly finalise a deal before the end of the transfer window.
As stated in the report, Leeds are still looking to reach an agreement with SC Freiburg for winger Roland Sallai.
