When the offside flag was raised and Jamie Vardy bemoaned a rare opening for Leicester in the second half, Bournemouth fans had the perfect window to enjoy the misfortune of the number 9. Vardy may not be as quick as before, but quickly responded to the boos emanating from the corner of the field closest to him, turning his head towards the traveling fans with a look of bewilderment before scoring the 1-0 score with his hands. Vardy departed shortly after, but a brilliant solo goal from Facundo Buonanotte made the difference.

For Steve Cooper, first a welcome first division victory of the season. Until then, their only victory in normal time had been at home against Tranmere Rovers, a team a few places above the League Two relegation zone, in the Carabao Cup. It was not easy for Leicester, who survived Bournemouth hitting the woodwork twice in the second half and Evanilson saw the equalizer headed in, after a clever free kick by Lewis Cook was disallowed for offside.

Buonanotte's goal in the first half was a beauty. The Brighton loanee started the play a few meters into the opponent's half, playing one-two with James Justin. Buonanotte took advantage of Justin's pass and, after passing inside Marcos Senesi, launched the ball into the roof of Kepa Arrizabalaga's net. Carlos Tevez, Buonanotte's coach at Rosario Central, once compared the 17-year-old Buonanotte to Lionel Messi.

The Leicester players received loud applause for their efforts as they made their way down the tunnel at half-time, but after the restart Bournemouth increased the pressure. Four minutes into the second half Illia Zabarnyi hit the ground in anger after sending a strong header to the post after a foul by Cook and in the 72nd minute substitute Dango Ouattara headed the crossbar after a cross from another substitute, Luis Sinisterra. . . Among those chances, Evanilson saw his header disallowed and another attempt, on the turn, blocked by Wout Faes, and goalkeeper Mads Hermansen saved low to his right from Ryan Christie.

Buonanotte's goal was a rare moment of quality for the hosts as Bournemouth peppered Leicester's goal in the second half. Leicester came out on the other side of some difficult defensive spells and held on through five minutes of second-half stoppage time to become the first promoted Championship team last season to claim a league victory.
