kicker reports that Leon Goretzka is not in Bayern Munich’s matchday squad for their DFB Pokal game against Ulm later today, despite being fit.
The decision by head coach Vincent Kompany to leave Goretzka behind shows that the midfielder no longer has a place in the Belgian’s Bayern team. However, Goretzka has little interest in leaving Bayern and wants to continue to fight for his place despite this obvious sign that he has no future at the club.
The 29-year-old’s contract at Bayern expires in 2026 and since the departure of Hansi Flick has just fallen out of favour at the club, especially under Thomas Tuchel and now Kompany. Goretzka also lost his place in the German national team ahead of EURO 2024 and was not considered for a call-up.
Other team news sees Raphaël Guerreiro start at left-back for Bayern with Alphonso Davies to sit on the bench. While a decision will be made later on if Harry Kane will start for Bayern or be rested.
Sacha Boey and Gabriel Vidović also joined Goretzka today and trained individually at Säberner Straße ahead of tonight’s game.
