Aston Villa‘s 21-year-old forward Lewis Dobbin is close to joining Championship side Norwich City on loan.

Bought in summer from Everton for £10million, Dobbin spent first half of the season on loan at West Brom, though he failed to make an impact for the Baggies.

The youngster has already been to Norwich City’s training ground and is close to sealing a temporary move to the Canaries.

Dobbin played 18 times for West Brom in the first half of the season, but was unable to score or register a single assist.

However, of those outings just two came from the start of the match, and only once in the Championship.

The England U19 international’s sole league start was ended 68 minutes in, in addition to 72 minutes in the Carabao Cup defeat by Fleetwood Town back in August.

Dobbin had been left out of the Baggies’ New Year’s Day victory over Preston, before co-caretaker manager Chris Brunt revealed his parent club had ended the loan early.

‘Villa have asked to call him back,’ former Baggies player Brunt told BBC Radio WM.

‘He’s not played as much as they would have wanted for a loan player coming out of a Premier League club. We will just have to roll with it and move on.’

The Stoke-born youngster left Unai Emery’s Villa just over a month after signing without ever featuring.
