Jamie Carragher has told Nottingham Forest to “show class” following his shock statement on social media.

The FA have since confirmed they will investigate Forest's statement as it calls into question the integrity of the game.

As well as losing the match 2-0, Forest were left feeling aggrieved after Ashley Young brought down Gio Reyna and Callum Hudson-Odoi during the match, as well as appearing to get away with a handball in the first half, neither of which resulted in a fine.

A statement said: “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not imposed – that we simply cannot accept.

“We notified the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they did not change it. Our patience has been tested several times.

“The NFFC will now consider its options.”

That statement was published by Carragher on Sky Sports, with the former Liverpool player saying: “It tells you where we are with the Premier League and the clubs.

“Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrible day today, horrible, and they should be criticized for that.

“It could have real implications for Nottingham Forest; I understand the frustration.

“That, which I just read on social media, is like a fan in a pub. That's disgraceful of Nottingham Forest.

“I feel frustrated, but that nonsense about VAR being a Luton fan, you can't get involved in that.

“You've got to show a bit of class if you're a football club and I'm frustrated. The referees have had a terrible, terrible day but you can't get involved in that. That's rubbish!”

Forest legend Stan Collymore echoed those sentiments, writing on social media: “We have now entered the stage where the club's official media channels tweet as fan channels.

“We have presidents, secretaries and directors for official complaints. Big clubs gesturing and shooting from the hip is self-sabotaging and does not help any meritorious argument. Sorry, it's the truth.”
