Liverpool reaction
Alexis MacAllister
We played a fantastic game and gave it our all with and without the ball. We know there is still room for improvement; there are times when we have to be patient, but we are used to being quite direct. We are in transition and working very hard to get used to Arne's ideas.
Luis Díaz (with the help of his translator, Alexis Mac Allister)
As a winger I need to score and provide assists, so I'm very happy. It was a good counterattack.
End of match: Liverpool 2-0 Brentford
Liverpool continued their fine start under Arne Slot and recorded another impressive 2-0 win. They were brilliant in the second half, with Mo Salah providing a thrilling early goal for Luis Diaz. They also hit the woodwork twice and Nathan Collins twice denied Diogo Jota with brilliant blocks. Tougher tests await them, but they look very good.
90+1 minute Endo replaces Ryan Gravenberch in the Liverpool Midfield. Five minutes of added time.
88 minutes Gakpo appears to foul Roerslev in the box but gets away with it and delivers a dangerous cross that Pinnock heads clear. Liverpool They were too good in the second half.
85 minutes Elliott's cross is headed wide by Núñez, although he was still offside.
83 minutes: Liverpool substitution Harvey Elliott replaces top scorer Mo Salah.
Min 81: Gakpo hits the crossbar! Robertson advances from midfield and passes the ball to Gakpo. He breaks through 20 yards out and unleashes a trademark shot that hits Collins' head and crashes off the bar. The resulting corner is headed wide by Konate.
Liverpool played a very exciting match, especially in the second half.
78 minutes Brentford played well enough without testing Alisson. However, that second goal finished them off and they will be happy to get away with it after conceding three or four goals.
Min 74: Double change for Brentford Kevin Schade and Frank Onyeke replace Yoane Wissa and Vitaly Janelt.
Min 72: Triple substitution for Liverpool Diogo Jota, the flashy Trent Alexander-Arnold and the outstanding Luis Díaz give way to Cody Gakpo, Darwin Núñez and Conor Bradley.
Szoboszlai won the ball in midfieldMac Allister passed to Diaz at the start. He sent a precise pass to Salah, who ran around the ball and slowly passed it over Flekken. A masterful move.
There will be an offside check but it looks okay.
GOAL! Liverpool 2-0 Brentford (Salah 71')
Mo Salah makes it two with a great goal!
69 minutes Mbeumo appeals for a penalty after some tough defending from Andy Robertson in the box. Stuart Attwell doesn't give it and the flag goes up, although presumably both are being checked. In any case, there is no penalty.
Min 67: Great defense! Jota's close-range effort is superbly blocked by Collins. The chance was seized by Diaz, who has been electrifying today. He drifted inside, away from Roerslev, and then turned in a precise pass to give Jota a shooting opportunity.
Min 66: Double substitution Mikkel Damsgaard and Fabio Carvalho, who receive a warm welcome from both sets of supporters, replace Keane Lewis-Potter and Mathias Jensen.
Min 64: Fantastic save! Salah breaks away from Ajer and into the box. His pass is deflected towards Diaz, who shoots from ten yards and Flekken brilliantly deflects the ball onto the post.
Liverpool have played some truly delightful football in the last 10 minutes.
Min 62: Alexander-Arnold hits the post straight from a corner! He was definitely trying to score. Someone may have touched it slightly, but the ball crashed off the post. Moments later, Konate heads just wide of Flekken from ten yards out.
61 minutes Beautiful football of Liverpoolfive consecutive one-touch passes in and around the box. The last was a clever pass from Mac Allister to Salah that was fair Janelt pushed back to take a corner.
Min 59: Great block from Collins! Surely that saved a goal. Mac Allister, 25 yards out, sent a low pass towards Alexander-Arnold on the right side of the area. He volleyed back for Jota, who looked set to score until Collins appeared on his blind side to divert the shot over the bar.
Min 56: Chance for Brentford! Jensen takes a short corner from the left, wins it back and sends a good ball in to the far post. Collins gets ahead of Diaz and forces him to head in from close range, which Alisson deflects into the box. It was a good save and he finished the job by punching the ball away.
53 minutes Alexander-Arnold, on the halfway line, cuts the most beautiful long pass to Jota, 25 metres from goal. He turns, moves forward and shoots, but the ball is blocked. Alexander-Arnold's pass was truly beautiful.
51 minutes Lewis-Potter makes a run into the box from the left and plays the ball to Mbeumo on the right edge of the box. He takes advantage of Roerslev's overlap but doesn't use it, cutting inside and firing a shot that deflects behind Konate. Brentford I've had several promising openings like that.
49 minutes Szoboszlai's powerful cross from the right is met at the near post by Díaz, whose elegant shot is well blocked.
Min 47: Good save from Flekken! Jota saves Díaz's cross with his thighs and then hits a overhead kick that goes wide, but it turns into a great pass for Robertson, whose close-range header hits Flekken just below the neck and goes out for a corner.
46 minutes Jota elbows Collins in the jaw, almost certainly accidentally, and the referee is content to give him the win. Brentford A free kick. Although it looked painful.
46 minutes Peep! Liverpool the second half begins.
“I wonder if Brentford Toney is kept off the field “To spark interest,” says Kári Tulinius. “He wasn’t the same player when he came back from suspension last year, and I wonder if the Bees hierarchy think having him play would lower his value. If not, it seems a bit silly not to have him in the team because they need someone to unsettle Liverpool’s defence, which has been very comfortable.”
Match Reports
“Update on today’s important match:Hearts were thrashed 3-1 by mighty Motherwell, whose goalscorers Mcginn, O'donnell and Sparrow (two defenders and a midfielder) are definitely indicative of goal threats all over the pitch and not, for example, our forwards having just one shooting boot between them,” writes James Humphries.
“However, keep an eye on Tawanda Maswanhise, the young Zimbabwean striker who is on loan and looks very attractive. In any case, I had to buy two pints and a whisky to reach the minimum payment on the card at the 100 Club, so I must run; to the well!”
Half-time: Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
An interesting first half at Anfield. Liverpool played brilliantly on both sides of Luis Díaz's brilliant goal and deserve to be ahead. Brentford They took a while to get going, but they finished strong and still believe they have a chance.
44 minutes Janelt runs over Mac Allister and receives a warning. Thomas Frank is not impressed.
43 minutes Janelt plays a cross to Lewis-Potter on the left wing. He closes in on Alexander-Arnold on the edge of the box and curls a shot that goes too close to Alisson. It was a good attack, though, and Lewis-Potter will be encouraged by the ease with which he beat Alexander-Arnold in the passing war.
41 minutes Alexander-Arnold, who has been a constant threat, cuts towards Pinnock on the edge of the area and unleashes a left-footed shot that deflects over the bar.
