Liverpool they are supposedly interested in signing Chelsea star Levi Colwill this summer, according to the Reds transfer expert Neil Jones.
After revamping their engine room last summer, the Merseyside club are apparently planning to revamp their defensive line in the upcoming transfer window. They have been linked with numerous defenders in recent times, including Gonçalo Inacio and Willian Pacho, but Colwill now figures to be a key target.
Liverpool have a long-term interest in the Englishman, having been linked with a move for him last summer. But the deal never materialized as the 21-year-old decided to stay at his boyhood club by extending his contract.
Now, writing in Daily Caught Offside Report, jones has reported that the Reds are expected to strengthen their defensive line by signing a new defender this summer and have identified Colwill as a serious option.
The journalist further claims that Liverpool's interest in the Chelsea star is “long-standing” and they are willing to take a concrete approach if the Blues capitalize on it.
Colwill to Liverpool
However, jones claims that Chelsea are unlikely to sell their academy graduate, so it will be extremely difficult for Liverpool to buy Colwill this summer.
The journalist also says that Pacho has been linked with a move to Anfield and that he would be a successful signing for Liverpool if they acquired him. However, they have not yet made a 'concrete' approach to get his signature.
Jones wrote:
“Of all the areas Liverpool could strengthen this summer, I think the centre-back is the one that needs it the most. His interest in Levi Colwill is long-standing and there were suggestions of an offer last summer before he signed his new contract with Chelsea. I don't expect the Londoners to sell Colwill this time, but if they did, I'd expect Liverpool to be in contention.
“Willian Pancho from Eintracht Frankfurt has also been linked, but I'm not aware of anything concrete on that. What I would say is that the player's age, experience and potential certainly make him an interesting prospect. “I would be surprised if Liverpool didn’t sign a young centre-back this summer.”
Colwill, who stands 6ft 2in tall, is a hugely talented player and it would be a huge coup for Liverpool if they were to sign him. However, it will be interesting to see if the North Anfield club finally manages to buy him to reinforce their defensive line.
