talkSPORT sources close to both Liverpool and Manchester City have denied that Luis Diaz has agreed to join the Etihad.
Shocking reports from a Spanish media outlet The Beach Bar He said on Tuesday afternoon that Diaz I was ready to make a surprising move to City.
The Colombia international has reportedly agreed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions ahead of a £60million transfer.
But talkSPORT understands that the reports are far from reality and Liverpool I don't want to sell it.
Diaz has been linked with several other clubs during the transfer window, with Barcelona and PSG interested.
Last season, he certainly gave no indication that his future lay anywhere other than Anfield.
Speaking to Liverpool FC's official team Electronic journal In October 2023, he reflected on how proud he was of where he was in his journey with the club and how much he looked forward to the future.
“The process and progression I have been experiencing so far is simply incredible.
“I have really learned a lot of things and I notice it more and more, not only in terms of football but in my decision-making in general. Personally, I also feel in a very good place.”
“As for the future, I see myself winning many titles with this great club, starting with trying to win everything that is at stake this season. And doing exactly what I do best, which is playing football, scoring goals, giving assists.
“And feeling good on the pitch, feeling happy and enjoying everything, which is the main thing. I think I will continue like this, with the same mentality of not letting myself get carried away and keeping my feet on the ground, knowing that the work I do every day will make me improve.”
“I will always try to be someone who is always there to help, not only my teammates but everyone in general.”
In a subsequent interview in April 2024, he reiterated his stance on the club.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that,” he said.
Diaz has been at Liverpool since January 2022, when he signed a five-year contract with Porto for a reported fee of around £37.5m, with a further £12.5m in add-ons.
The Atlético Junior graduate had already played in the Colombian league for three seasons, before moving to Porto in 2019.
There he racked up 41 goals in 125 appearances and continued to rack up minutes as he became a regular for the Reds.
He scored 13 goals in 51 appearances for Liverpool last season and already has a total of four trophies to his name with the club.
He helped them to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in his first six months at the club and then added a Community Shield to his collection in 2022.
Liverpool also lifted the Carabao Cup again last season, although their Premier League bid fell through in the final stages.
Manchester City are reportedly looking for a striker given that they have recently lost Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid.
City have already signed one winger this summer – 20-year-old Savinho from Troyes, although he was on loan at Girona last season.
The big question is whether left-winger Diaz would fit into a team that already boasts players like Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish.
