Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher has backed his former club to sign Newcastle United Ace Anthony Gordon this summer.
The Reds have been very quiet on this one transfer window, but they have been heavily linked with the English. It has been suggested that the Magpies want a fee of around £75 million to sell their star man and therefore Arne Slot's team will have to break the bank to buy him.
Now, speaking of Sports Bible Carragher has said he is a big admirer of Gordon and that the striker would be an excellent acquisition for Liverpool if they secure his signature.
Asked if Liverpool should sign Gordon, he said:
“I think he would be a good signing for Liverpool, I'm a big fan.”
The 23-year-old showed productive performances in the Premier league Last season and the following seasons, he was selected to play for England at the European Championships, but failed to break into Gareth Southgate's starting XI and played just four minutes throughout the competition.
From Gordon to Liverpool
Now the former defender says it was incredible Gordon was not given the chance to play for England at the Euros, considering his blistering pace is dangerous for opposing defenders.
He said:
“I can't believe he hasn't had more opportunities for England. He has a blistering pace that leaves defenders stunned and there aren't many players in the world who have that.”
Gordon's signing would be a huge coup for Liverpool if they do sign him. However, if the Reds do sign him, it will raise questions over the futures of Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo as it is difficult to imagine the Anfield club going into next season with three high-profile left wingers.
On the other hand, Gordon is highly unlikely to be signed as a back-up option, considering he is likely to cost around £75m. Therefore, it will be interesting to see what the Merseyside club decide to do regarding their attacking department this summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also reportedly considering signing a new playmaker to bolster their midfield and it remains to be seen who they ultimately opt to sign before the end of this window.
