Liverpool back Anthony Gordon's summer signing

Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher has explained why his former club want to sign him Newcastle United Striker Anthony Gordon this summer.

The Reds are reportedly interested in signing the Englishman in this transfer window to reinforce the front line. It was even reported that the Merseyside club reached an agreement with the Magpies to sign him earlier this summer, but the Tyneside club ultimately decided not to sell him.

However, it has been reported that although Liverpool have previously failed to lure him to Anfield, they remain interested in signing him and could secure his signature before the end of this window.

Now, speaking of Blood Red: Liverpool FC YouTube ChannelCarragher has said he would “like” to see Gordon join the Reds in this transfer window.

The former defender also claims that the Merseyside club do not have many fast forwards at the moment apart from Darwin Nunez. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have lost their rhythm in recent times. That is why Liverpool should sign Gordon, who is a fast and “scary” player like Sadio Mane.

From Gordon to Liverpool

Carragher said:

“It was a transfer I would have liked to see happen. I think the reason Anthony Gordon's name has probably been mentioned and Liverpool are interested is that I think there's only Nunez in attack right now, who has blistering pace.

“Salah is obviously not as quick as he used to be, of course he isn’t, and I don’t think Diaz has that pace. I go back to (Sadio) Mane… I think Anthony Gordon’s pace is terrifying, I do. You know when you’re watching a game on TV and you go, ‘Wow!’ and you just see someone get past a full-back.

“I think that's what he could bring if it were the case, if he were to arrive and maybe Liverpool were interested. I think it's that pace, Mané's pace basically. I think we're lacking that in attack.”

Newcastle has given a slap in the face £75 million Gordon's price tag is very high, so it would be a very expensive signing for Liverpool. The striker is a talented player and has great potential, so it would be a big coup for Liverpool if they manage to sign him before the deadline.
