Liverpool are “determined” to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, according to a recent report.
After passing through ChelseaThe 24-year-old decided to join the Eagles in 2021 to play regularly and develop his career. The defender has proven his qualities in the Premier League in recent years and has now established himself as the captain of the south London club.
Guehi is a regular for England's senior team and even helped his country reach the European Championship final this summer.
So, it seems that, having been impressed by the former Chelsea star's recent performances for club and country, Liverpool have shown interest in signing him.
According to a recent report (via Signings), Liverpool have begun work to sign a new centre-back to replace Virgil van Dijk, who has entered the final 10 months of his current contract, and have singled out Guehi as a “perfect candidate”.
From Guehi to Liverpool
Newcastle United were strongly linked The England international had already announced his intention to sign him this summer and even made several proposals to Crystal Palace to close the deal, but they ultimately did not sign him.
Now, the report says the Reds are “very keen” to lure Guehi away from Selhurst Park and will “make an offer” for the defender soon.
Crystal Palace demanded more than £70 million sell their star this summer, but they could be forced to cash in on him for a cut-price fee in 2025 as he is valued at around £32m per Transfer market – will enter the final year of his current contract next summer.
Guehi is quick, strong, comfortable playing out from the back, efficient in his defensive contributions and also reads the game well. However, he is not as good as Van Dijk in the air because he is not as tall as the Dutchman.
However, he is a very talented player with the potential to become a top defender in the future. Therefore, strengthening the defence by signing Guehi would not be a bad decision if Liverpool do sign him.
However, it will be interesting to see if Arne Slot's side eventually manage to lure him to Anfield next year.
