Liverpool They supposedly have a “strategic advantage” over manchester united in signing Girona defender Miguel Gutiérrez, according to Spanish media Transfers.

It has recently been reported that the Reds want to sign a new left-back as a possible replacement for Andy Robertson, who will turn 32 next year.

They have been linked with a few names in recent weeks, including Fulham's Antonee Robinson, AFC Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez and Wolverhampton Wanderers' Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Now, Transfers They claim that Liverpool are also interested in Gutiérrez and are prepared to secure his service in this January window. The 23-year-old has a £29million release clause in his current contract, but Girona could be willing to let him leave for a smaller fee.

Gutiérrez arrived at Girona from real Madrid after passing through his La Fabrica academy and are interested in bringing him back. They even have a buy-back clause for around £7 million.

Man Utd are also in this race but are unlikely to make a move for him this month, so Liverpool have a “strategic advantage” over the Red Devils to get the deal done.

The Spaniard is a winger with an offensive vocation. He is technically sound, can play from the back, has the ability to dribble past opposing defenders in tight areas and can create opportunities for his attacking teammates.

The 23-year-old is yet to make his senior debut for Spain but was part of his country which won gold at the Olympics last summer.

The youngster has enjoyed a promising first half of this season, contributing five goals and keeping a clean sheet in 17 La Liga appearances.

The defender is a talented player and could be an ideal option to play in Arne Slot's system, so he would be a smart acquisition for Liverpool if they buy him.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club finally manages to secure his signature to strengthen the left side of the defense in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, after a resounding 5-0 victory over western ham United, Liverpool will face Manchester United in the league next weekend.
