Once Euro 2024 is over, it is expected that the situation of Nico Williams will increase. The 21-year-old has attracted strong interest in recent months – Barcelona seem the best place to sign him from Athletic Club, although clubs in the Premier League have not given up.
Liverpool is one of the teams that have kept tabs on Williams, and according to a report from The National, they intend to activate his release clause of 58 million euros. This would give them an advantage in the race to sign the Spanish winger, as no one seems close to doing the same.
However, it is worth noting that reports have suggested that Williams does not want to join a Premier League team this summer, while Athletic is confident of keeping him at San Mames for at least another 12 months.
If Williams were to leave Athletic Club this summer, it seems more likely that he was in charge in Catalonia. It would be bad news for Liverpool, but it would be fantastic for Barcelona, who intend to move forward with a deal later in the transfer window.
