Liverpool lead the race to sign Teun Koopmeiners this summer
Liverpool They are reportedly leading the race to sign Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners this summer, according to the Italian journalist. Emanuele Corazzi.
Having joined La Dea from AZ Alkmaar in 2021, the 26-year-old has established himself as a key player in Gian Piero Gasperini's starting eleven in recent years.
The midfielder has enjoyed a productive campaign this season, scoring 15 goals and registering seven assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.
So, impressed by the Dutch international's eye-catching performances this season, Liverpool have shown interest in signing him.
Now, speaking on Chronache Live (via Juve), Corazzi has reported that Juventus are interested in signing Koopmeiners this summer, but Atalanta do not want to rush into selling one of their biggest assets as they expect a bidding war to ensue.
Koopmeiners to Liverpool
The report further claims that some English clubs have expressed their intentions to sign the midfielder, but Liverpool are currently “above everyone” in this race.
Corazzi said:
“Atalanta with Koopmeiners is doing exactly what they did with Hojlund, that is: 'Juve is interested but let's wait, we'll see what offers come in', because many English greats, one above all Liverpool, are very interested in Koopmeiners. Last year, Hojlund received so many offers that Atalanta waited and then sold him to United for a huge sum. “It is a little more difficult for the Koopmeiners to go to Juventus if Liverpool arrive.”
It has been suggested that Atalanta could be willing to cash in on the Koopmeiners if they receive an offer of around 52 million pounds this summer. Therefore, Liverpool will have to pay a huge amount to attract the Dutchman to Anfield.
The Atalanta star has previously expressed his desire to move to the first division so it might not be a problem for the Merseyside club to convince him to join the club if they formalize their interest.
Koopmeiners is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Liverpool if they buy him. However, it will be interesting to see if the Reds ultimately opt to sign the Atalanta star in the next window to bolster their engine room.
