Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher warned about live 'CBS chat' on Sky Sports that he would leave studio laughing
Jamie Carragher was jokingly warned to leave his CBS Sports banter with Micah Richards outside the Sky Sports studio for host Kelly Cates.
Liverpool legend Carragher he was on duty as an expert for his former employers 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Sunday to keep them at the top of the Premier League.
Sitting next to him in the Anfield studio was Richardsand the duo are a popular couple on CBS Sports' Champions League coverage.
The former defenders are much loved for their on-screen chemistry and theatrical antics, but Sky Sports' Cates, daughter of Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish, just wanted to calm things down a bit.
During his post-match analysis, Carragher believed Liverpool should have been awarded a penalty for Robert Sánchez's challenge on Curtis Jones.
“You've asserted yourself a little bit,” Cates told him before Richards added: “You were 50-50 at halftime, has anyone been in your DM?”
This caused the studio to burst into laughter, with Carragher later insisting: “No, it was a penalty, leave my DMs out of this.”
With Carragher and Richards' CBS antics apparently crossing over to Sky Sports, Cates quipped: “All right, don't bring your CBS talk here.”
Carragher and Richards beamed with joy after seeing the funny side, although a confused Daniel Sturridge said: “Calm down, what's going on?”
Social media loved the interaction, as one X user said: “'Don't bring your CBS chat here' is phenomenal from Kelly Cates.”
Another message: “Kelly Cates is the best.”
Arne Slot's rampant Liverpool took the lead Chelsea in the 29th minute thanks to Mohamed Salah's penalty after a foul by Levi Colwill on Jones.
The Reds were awarded a second penalty before half-time when Chelsea's Sanchez was adjudged to have brought down Jones in the area.
However, referee John Brooks' decision was overturned by VAR and the score remained 1-0 at half-time.
Carragher said during half-time that the decision could have gone either way, but then changed his stance after the match.
Replays showed that Sánchez made contact with the ball even though Jones fell to the ground, although Carragher was was surprised.
“Years ago you used to say, when you played, 'I won the ball as a referee.' You cut the ball and you just pull someone out and say, 'I won the ball first.'
“Those days are gone, you can't get away with just taking the ball first and then taking Curtis Jones like he did…
“Listen, I understand that he has nowhere else to go, but he just goes in and takes it out. The fact that the referee gave it, I'm very surprised that they disallowed it, I think it should have been a penalty.”
Chelsea tied the score early in the second half through Nicolas Jackson, but Jones scored the winning goal for Liverpool moments later.
Slot's team top the table ahead of Manchester City and four points ahead of Arsenal, who they will face away from home on Sunday.
