Liverpool, manchester united and Tottenham Hotspur are said to be “keeping a close eye” on Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi. according to a Daily Mail report.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant campaign at Selhurst Park, which resulted in a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024 in which the player is already proving vital.
Guehi was important in defense as the Three Lions kept a clean sheet on their way to beating Serbia 1-0 in their opening match of the competition.
Crystal Palace are bracing for interest in his services, but the newspaper adds that the Eagles will “fight to retain” the defender despite acknowledging they will face a “big battle” to land him.
One of the options they are open to is extending his contract with a release clause, a tactic that has helped them retain Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise in recent months.
If Guehi is hell-bent on leaving for a bigger club this summer, he won't “come cheap”, with Palace demanding “at least £65m”, according to the Daily Mail.
Is it unlikely to move?
Guehi was phenomenal in the 2023/24 season and if he ends up having a memorable Euro 2024 as well, he will be more tempted to move on as a productive year may allow him to command better wages elsewhere.
Crystal Palace could also consider raising funds by selling Guehi if there really is a big market for him in the transfer window, and a decision on his future is expected after Euro 2024.
However, this is easier said than done as its cost will be a major deterrent for all interested clubs due to the first divisionstrict Financial Fair Play guidelines.
Given that his price tag is close to that of Jarrad Branthwaite, Manchester United could opt to move for him. Everton Man in place of Guehi this year, while Tottenham may also pass as their priority is likely to be a striker.
Consequently, Liverpool would become the favorites to sign Guehi, but they may also not be willing to pay a higher price compared to Gonzalo Inácio's release clause, which amounts to £51 million.
With his three main contenders already exploring cheaper options, Guehi's best bet would be to stay at Crystal Palace for another year without renewing his contract.
In such a scenario, he could join one of the league's 'top six' on a discounted deal in 2025, 12 months before his contract expires in 2026.
