Liverpool Bayern have reportedly held talks with RB Leipzig over a deal to sign Mohamed Simakan before tomorrow's deadline, according to the transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Having moved to the Red Bull Arena from Strasbourg in 2021, the 24-year-old has established himself as a key player for the German side in recent years. The defender helped them to a top-four finish and qualification for the Champions League in every season since he joined.

So, it seems that after being impressed by his performances in the German top flight, the Reds have registered their interest in signing him as a potential replacement for Joel Matip, who left the club last month upon the expiry of his contract.

Writing about unknown, Plettenberg Liverpool are reportedly interested in Simakan and have already held talks with Leipzig to enquire about the details of his transfer before making any possible last-minute signing.

The journalist claims that Marco Rose's team are open to letting him leave if they receive a suitable proposal, so Liverpool could secure his signature if they get in touch with him before tomorrow's deadline.

From Simakan to Liverpool

However, Plettenberg claims that Newcastle United They are also looking to sign him and Barcelona They have also made a move for him. Moreover, Saudi Arabian clubs are also planning to get him. Therefore, the Reds will have to beat their rivals to close the deal.

Plettenberg wrote:

“Newcastle are considering signing Mohamed Simakan until the final day of negotiations. Barcelona and Liverpool have also enquired about him. There is also a specific interest from Saudi Arabia. Leipzig are open to negotiations for the versatile 24-year-old defender only with suitable offers. Contract valid until 2027.”

The Frenchman reportedly has a £59 million buyout clause in his current contract, and with three years remaining on his deal, Rose's team is in a strong position to demand that the clause be triggered to let their star player go.

The 24-year-old is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and is also excellent at defensive contributions. He therefore has the attributes needed to thrive in the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club eventually make a concrete approach to sign him before the deadline.
