Liverpool They are reportedly planning to sign Sporting CP duo Gonçalo Inácio and Ousmane Diomande this summer, according to the Portuguese outlet. jn.
With Jurgen Klopp About to leave his managerial position, the Reds will begin a new era under a new coach starting next season.
Fabrizio Romano has reported several times that Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is high on the Merseyside club's wish list to replace Klopp and now, according to the report from jnLiverpool have already reached an agreement with the Portuguese to appoint him as their new coach.
The report further claims that Amorim will prioritize strengthening Liverpool's defensive line if he eventually moves to Anfield and wants to bring some Sporting stars with him.
jn claims that Liverpool could look to sign Inacio and Diomande after listening to Amorim's advice and while Inacio has a £51m release clause included in his current contract, the Ivorian has a £68m release clause in his current contract. Therefore, the Reds may have to spend a combined fee of 119 million to attract the duo to Anfield this summer.
Diomande and Inácio to Liverpool
Liverpool currently have Virgil van Dijk, Jarell Quansah, Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip as central defensive options, as Matip's contract expires at the end of this season and he is expected to leave the club this summer.
Amorim likes to deploy a back three system, so Liverpool need to revamp their defensive line to help the Portuguese manager implement his preferred system should they eventually choose to name him Klopp's successor.
Inácio is a left-footed center back, he is excellent with the ball at his feet, he can make passes between the lines and is also efficient in defensive contributions. On the other hand, Diomande is fast, strong, good in the air, can play from the back and is also excellent in defensive contributions.
Therefore, the Sporting duo could be a shrewd signing for Liverpool to bolster their defensive line if they buy him. However, neither Inácio nor Diomande have shown their qualities at the highest level so far, so spending the reported £119m fee to sign the young duo would be a big gamble.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the Anfield club finally opts to make a concrete approach to signing Incaio and Diomande this summer.
