Liverpool They are supposedly looking to succeed Arsenal and manchester united sign SL Benfica star Joao Neves this summer, according to Portuguese media CM Sport.

Having shown his qualities with the Eagles last season, the 19-year-old has already secured his place in the Portugal squad and is expected to play a key role for them in the upcoming European Championship.

So, after his recent emergence, many big clubs in Europe have shown their interest in signing him before the summer window.

As Man Utd explore the market to sign a new midfielder, the Portuguese has been mentioned as a key target. Arsenal are also considering signing a new midfielder to strengthen their engine room and have stated their interest in signing the Benfica star.

However, according to the report CM SportLiverpool are looking to leapfrog the north London club and the Red Devils in this race by submitting a formal proposal soon.

The report further claims that Neves has a £101m release clause in his current contract and Benfica do not want to let their star player leave for less than that figure. So Liverpool will have to spend a lot of money to buy him this summer.

Having endured a terrible 2022-23 season, the Merseyside club decided to spend big to revamp their midfield department last summer. They opted to let Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita leave the club and sign Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.

However, it appears that new Reds manager Arne Slot is keen to sign a new midfielder this summer. Bruno Guimaraes, Ederson and Douglas Luiz have all been mentioned as potential targets, but Neves is now emerging as a serious new option.

The Benfica star is a highly talented player and possesses the qualities to become a world-class midfielder in the future. Therefore, it would be a big coup for Liverpool if they manage to get him signed.

However, it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club can finally lure him to Anfield ahead of next season to bolster their midfield department.
