Liverpool They are reportedly showing “concrete interest” in signing Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon this summer, according to the transfer expert Fabricius Romano.
After joining the Magpies from Everton Last year, it took the 23-year-old a while to adapt to his new surroundings. However, he put in impressive performances in the Premier league Last season, he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 35 appearances.
After showing his qualities with Newcastle last season, the striker was called up to play for England at the European Championships. However, he did not get many minutes in that tournament, as he only played four minutes.
Therefore, it seems that, impressed by Gordon's recent performances, Liverpool have shown interest in signing him to strengthen their attacking department.
Talking about his Youtube Channel, Roman has reported that Liverpool are showing a “strong” interest in signing the Englishman, as they highly value the winger.
From Gordon to Liverpool
The journalist also claims that the Reds are “discussing” internally whether to sign him or not, as they believe Gordon is a “fantastic” player.
However, the biggest problem the Merseyside club could face in getting this deal done is that Newcastle are expected to demand a “big price” to sell their star as they do not want to let him go.
Romano said:
“What I wanted to say to you tonight is that Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon remains strong, it’s still a concrete interest. Anthony Gordon remains a player that they really value and really like internally. Internally they are discussing the Anthony Gordon situation because they think he could be a fantastic player for Liverpool in the future.
“The problem could be Newcastle’s valuation, because he is an important player for them and they have no intention of paying a normal price for Anthony Gordon. It has to be a high price to be able to give the green light. At the moment, Newcastle want to keep the player.”
Eddie Howe's team are reported to want a fee of around £80 million to sell their star man, so Arne Slot's side will have to break the bank to secure his signature.
Gordon is reportedly a Liverpool fan, although he came through Everton's academy. Therefore, he is said to be open to a move to Anfield if he is approached.
The Newcastle star is an excellent striker and it would be a huge coup for Liverpool if they were to sign him. However, it will be interesting to see if the Anfield club manage to secure his signature in this transfer window.
