Liverpool They are reportedly showing great interest in signing PSV Eindhoven star Ricardo Pepi, according to Caught offside.
After joining the Eredivisie giants from FC Augsburg last year, Peter Bosz has used the 21-year-old as a rotation player. The American won the league title at the Philips Stadion last season and has shown his goalscoring prowess every time he has been given the chance this season, scoring six goals and registering one assist in just three league starts.
Caught offside reports that the youngster's striking performances so far this season have attracted the attention of several big clubs in Europe, with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Atlético de Madrid among those who have shown interest in him.
But the Anfield club is the one that is showing the “greatest interest.” PSV would be keen to cash in on Pepi if they receive an offer of around £21m from potential suitors such as the Merseyside club.
Pepi to Liverpool
Pepi is a center forward by traits. He is efficient at creating chances, can hold his own, is excellent at taking penalties and also works hard out of possession.
Diogo Jota and Darwin Núñez are the two forward options that Arne Slot currently has at his disposal. But the Portuguese has had injury problems at Liverpool, while Núñez has not been able to show his best level at Anfield in recent years after joining the club from SL Benfica.
Jota has been injured in recent weeks and Slot used Luis Díaz in the number nine position in a couple of games before the international break. The Colombian even scored a hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen from this position.
But he is more left-wing, so signing a new striker would be the right decision for Liverpool. However, Pepi has yet to prove himself at the highest level to suggest he could help Liverpool achieve their lofty ambitions if he moved to Anfield.
Therefore, Liverpool would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attack. But it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club finally make a concrete decision to sign Pepi.
