Liverpool were warned they could suffer a similar downfall to Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford.

That is the view of Arsenal legend Ray Parlour, who insists the Reds should be careful when naming their next manager.

Jurgen Klopp announced in January that He will go away Liverpool at the end of the season.

Since then, however, the club has gone through five different permanent managers and has failed to compete for the Premier League.

“It's difficult because you look at their position at the moment; they've been fighting for trophies every season and it's a big job for someone,” Parlor added.

“It will be a difficult job because we all know what happened when Sir Alex Ferguson left. manchester united.
