Liverpool have added former Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot to their list of midfield targets alongside Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi, according to the Mirror, as reported by Daily Express.

Liverpool have yet to sign any players in the summer transfer window, but plans are already underway to reinforce key positions in the team.

According to The mirroras cited by the ExpressThe Reds have added Rabiot to their transfer targets this summer and are now looking to outstrip Manchester United —who have been linked with the Frenchman for the past few seasons— to the transfer of the 48-cap French international.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot deeply admires Rabiot and believes his experience can be vital to Liverpool's young squad ahead of the new Premier League season, according to the report.

The report adds that Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement with Zubimendi after agreeing to pay his £51m release clause and that talks are progressing at a “steady pace”.

The signing of Rabiot, valued at 30 million pounds but available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Juventus, as well as Zubimendi for £51m, would be a huge deal and a bold statement of intent from the Merseyside club.

Liverpool plans a double blow

Heading into next week's Premier League opener, Liverpool remain the only Premier League side yet to sign a player this summer.

However, they have been linked with some high-profile players in recent months and it is only a matter of time before The Kop sees a new player in a Liverpool shirt.

Rabiot and Zubimendi appear to be two clear targets and both would be excellent additions to Slot's squad if Liverpool can secure deals for the midfield duo.

Having made over 150 appearances for Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, Rabiot would bring a wealth of experience and leadership skills to Liverpool's young midfield. However, Manchester United are expected to provide tough competition, so it will not be easy for Liverpool to win the race for his signature.

Zubimendi, for his part, is an effective ball passer and midfield orchestrator who fits perfectly into Slot's style of football.

With less than a week to go until the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season, Liverpool fans are optimistic that the team will repeat their pre-season form in the Premier League next season.
