Rico Richards bagged his third goal of the season for loan club Port Vale on Tuesday evening, in a 1-1 draw at home to Wrexham in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

The 21-year-old was one of three on-loan Villans in action in the competition in midweek, and was introduced from the bench with 14 minutes remaining.

With Vale trailing 1-0, Richards seized a loose ball inside the area and showed quick thinking to arrow an effort into the bottom corner, sending the game to a penalty shoot-out.

Despite Richards seeing his spot kick saved, the Valiants had the goalkeeping heroics of Ben Amos to thank as they bagged the extra point on their way to securing second place in the group.

Elsewhere in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, there were starts for Josh Feeney and Tommi O’Reilly for Shrewsbury Town, who fell to a 3-0 defeat at Walsall. Feeney played all 90 minutes, while O’Reilly was withdrawn with 10 minutes to play.

Louie Barry was rested for Stockport County, remaining an unused substitute as the already-qualified Hatters lost 2-0 at home to Tranmere Rovers.
