Sky Germany reports that former Liverpool and Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius is under consideration at Schalke as they look for a number two goalkeeper.
Schalke’s current number two, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann is unhappy with his situation at the club having joined in the summer from Eintracht Braunschweig. He is likely to move back to Braunschweig on loan for the rest of the season. Die Königsblau’s current number one is Justin Heekeren.
Due to Schalke’s on going dispute with Ralf Fährmann, they need a number two goalkeeper. Negotiations with Karius are already at an advanced stage with the 31-year-old set to become the number two.
Karius is without a club having left Newcastle United in the summer where he was a number three goalkeeper. The 31-year-old was a goalkeeping prospect during his first spell in the Bundesliga with Mainz. However, his move to Liverpool and his subsequent errors in the Champions League final in 2018 has heavily effected his career and confidence since. Away from his spell in England, Karius has also played for Besiktas and was on loan at Union Berlin where he made four appearances.
