Luis Suarez drops the hint of retirement in Uruguay

Luis Suarez has dropped a major hint that he is ready to retire from international football.

The elder Barcelona stella joined Inter Miami at the end of 2023 on a one-year contract in Florida.

Suarez turned 37 in January and is already planning to call time on a superb career.

His stance on Inter Miami is clear, after indicating that he will not activate a 12-month extension on his contractas he heads towards retirement for club and country.

Suarez has struggled with injuries since leaving European football in 2022 and has been candid about the toll football takes on his body.

After securing a third-place finish for Canada in the 2024 Copa America, Suarez effectively announced that he is ending his career in Uruguay, to focus on his final months in Miami.

“There was no better way to finish, with the victory today, finishing third, and take positives and improve the negatives”, according to the reports of Sports newspaper.

“This is not the time to talk about anything personally, about whether I will continue or not.”

Suarez's 142 caps make him the second most capped Uruguayan of all time and he leads the goalscoring charts with 69 goals.
