Speculation about a Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes' move continues to fester and the Brazilian would contribute in some way to filling the gaps left by the absence of Rodri.
Guimaraes was high on Guardiola's summer signing list and Newcastle are anticipating an approach from City in January for their star midfielder.
City have won just one of their last ten games and are lamenting injuries to key stars, most notably Ballon d'Or winner Rodri.
The club's latest setback came in midweek, with a 2-0 loss to Juventus which leaves City in serious danger of falling out of the Champions League at the first hurdle.
